In
Sanskrit, mudra means gesture symbol or seal.
Bring
your hands together in “anjali mudra” - “offering”
(anjali) and seal (mudra)
with fingertips pointing upward, thumbs touching the center of
your chest (breastbone) gently, close your eyes and feel.
Right
hand (male energy) meets the left hand (female energy) in balance
at the heart. This unification brings the left and right hemispheres
of one's brain together, calming the mind, connecting one to the
present moment.
This
is a gesture that most people in the world do while praying. It
is considered a mudra of greeting and respect in many cultures
which is a western image of praying hands. In India this gesture
of greeting is accompanied by the word “Namaste” or
“Namaskar” which means “ I bow to you”,
“I respect that divinity within you that is also within
me” "I honor the Spirit in you which is also in me”,
"Your spirit and my spirit are ONE."
When you fold your hands with all fingertips touching (each finger
is associated with an element) you create a close energy circuit
which flows through your subtle bodies, all your chakras and organs
creating a field of healing energy.
The
Anjali mudra is a great mudra for heart meditation, connecting
one to the heart center. It takes the mind away from continuous
chatter of the mind into the deep silence of the heart.
Folding
hands at the forehead (third eye) represents a deep form of respect.
Touching the forehead with your thumbs awakens the third eye,
the center of wisdom, inviting spirituality and wisdom in ones
life, giving relief from symptoms of physical or mental distress.
Whenever
you feel anxious or “under the weather” try this mudra
while closing your eyes, letting your inner self guide you.
Namaste,
