Ujjayi breath ~ "the ocean sound"~ " the victory breath"



...a balancing and calming breath which increases oxygenation.
This pranayama (breath control) is used in association with the practice of yoga poses.
 
Sit in a relaxed cross legged position. Close your eyes and observe of your natural breath. If breath is not even, make it even. First inhale and exhale deeply through the mouth.
On the exhale, slightly constricting the passage of air. Imagine that you are fogging up a mirror with your exhale. Next do the same with the inhalation. When you are able to control the throat on both the inhale and the exhale, close the mouth and begin breathing through the nose. Continue applying the same toning to the throat that you did when the mouth was open. The breath will still make a loud noise coming in and out of the nose. The breath should be audible to you, but not to anyone standing more than a couple of feet from you. The breath should be soothing and calming. It energizes and at the same time it calms the nervous system.
